Commissioner Wayne Dukes' background, education, credentials and prior professional experience work hand-in-hand to serve the needs of the people of Hernando County.

As a native and long-time resident of Hernando County, Commissioner Dukes has an unique insight into the very issues that are important to his fellow residents. He understands what is needed to not only preserve Hernando County's quality of life but also improve the services offered by our local government as well as bring economic prosperity to the County and its citizens. 



Wayne was born and raised in Brooksville and is a graduate of Hernando High School. He is a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Vietnam-era. 

Commissioner Dukes' educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree and two Associate of Applied Science Degrees in Management and Fire Science. He earned all three degrees as an adult while working a full time job. 

Wayne retired after a successful 32 year career working for the U.S. Air Force in Civil Engineering and Fire Service. During his career, he accumulated extensive experience in budgeting, contract management, construction review and approval, space allocation, and infrastructure. 

After his retirement, he and his wife of 32 years, Silvia, returned home to Hernando County, Florida. 

Commissioner Dukes was elected in 2010 to the Hernando County Board of Commissioners. He has served two years as Vice-Chair and three years as Chairman of the Board.
